Silk Pillow Covers, Hand Dyed, One-of-a-Kind, Ecoprinted with Giant Hibiscus Blossoms, Set of 2
$120.00
Giant Hibiscus Blossoms were used to dye/print this one-of-a-kind set of pillow covers, #308.
Ecoprinting uses natural dyes from locally sourced plants (mostly my garden) to create extraordinary color, pattern, and texture on natural fibers such as silk, linen, cotton, and wool. The plants are tightly bound into pre-mordanted (enables the dye color to adhere) cloth and steamed, creating a permanent transfer of form and pigment from the plants to the fiber. The cloth is then dried, aged, washed and ironed.
The process is highly variable. At different seasons of the year, different pigments may concentrate in various plant parts to create color variability. Results vary according to plant season, plant part used, processing time, local water type, mordant, fiber type, etc. An experimental attitude is required;)
Ecoprinting with these Giant Hibiscus Blossoms is precious, as each flower is only in blossom for one day. I ecoprint them on fabric that day, the earlier the better...as sometimes even by afternoon the japanese beetles have eaten them for lunch;). This variety is a bright pink in blossom, and yields green when ecoprinted.
Fiber content: Silk Noil. This fabric has beautiful texture and drape.
The edges are left raw for a natural look, and are lightly fringed.
Measurements: Fits a standard 16" square pillow
Hand wash in cool water with mild soap and lay flat to dry. Soften in dryer for a few minutes if desired. Steam iron at silk setting if desired.
This garment ships USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation in the US.
For international orders, please see my shipping policies for more information.
