Hand Dyed Long Silk/Rayon Fringed Velvet One-of-a-Kind Scarf in Dark Purple Ecoprinted with Hibiscus, Coreopsis, Leaves

$165.00
This one-of-a-kind luxurious fringed velvet scarf, #652, was ecoprinted with baby sage, leaves of geranium, rose, smokebush and japanese maple, and blossoms of coreopsis and hibiscus. Logwood natural dye was used to yield this deep purple background color. Perfect elegance for the holidays!

Ecoprinting uses natural dyes from locally sourced plants to create extraordinary color, pattern, and texture on natural fibers such as silk, linen, cotton, and wool. The plants are tightly bound into pre-mordanted (enables the pigments and tannins to bind to the cloth) cloth and steamed, creating a permanent transfer of form and pigment from the plants to the fiber. The cloth is then dried, cured, and laundered.

The process is highly variable. At different seasons of the year, different pigments, tannins, and acids may concentrate in various plant parts to create color variability. Results vary according to plant season, plant part used, processing time, local water type, mordant, fiber type, etc. An experimental attitude is required;)

Fiber content: 20% Silk, 80% Rayon. This fabric has a beautiful sheen, medium weight, and drapes gracefully.

Measurements: 67 inches long plus 4" fringe each end, by 13 inches wide.

Hand wash in cool water with mild soap (neutral Ph detergent like ECOS is best) and lay flat to dry. Toss in low temp dryer for a few minutes to fluff and remove any wrinkles. Do not iron as it could ruin the velvet pile; instead you can gently steam the fabric holding the iron above (not touching) the wrong side of the fabric.
