This very special Peace Silk wrap, #717, was hand-woven in India by Assam Silk. The owner, Raja, makes 3 weights and I was fortunate to order 2 of each weight to hand-dye and ecoprint. This weight has a beautiful hand, drapes well, and has a lovely raw slubby texture! It's 23" x 76" plus 3" fringe on each end. I ecoprinted it with japanese maple and purple smokebush. Lac natural dye yielded this beautiful rose background color with maroon undertones. Ecoprinting uses natural dyes from locally sourced plants to create extraordinary color, pattern, and texture on natural fibers such as silk, linen, cotton, and wool. The plants are tightly bound into pre-mordanted (enables the dye color to adhere) cloth and steamed, creating a permanent transfer of form and pigment from the plants to the fiber. The cloth is then dried, cured, washed and ironed. The process is highly variable. At different seasons of the year, different pigments may concentrate in various plant parts to create color variability. Results vary according to plant season, plant part used, processing time, local water type, mordant, fiber type, etc. An experimental attitude is required;) Fiber content: 100% Peace/Eri Silk (produced without harming silkworms) . It has a slubby texture with irregularities that give it a unique character, graceful drape, and medium to heavy weight. Measurements: 76 inches long plus 3" fringe each end, by 23 inches wide. Hand wash in cool water with mild pH neutral soap and lay flat to dry. Wear crinkled, or lightly iron at silk setting. This garment ships USPS First Class Mail with delivery confirmation in the US.
